Spring Is All You Need!

Hey guys! So I was looking at past posts for some inspiration, and I realized I haven’t used Polyvore on this site in a while. For those who are new to my blog, Polyvore is an inspiration site that allows you to make collages of your favorite fashion and beauty pieces. They just added a new feature that allows you to select items from ‘stores’, such as PacSun or Forever 21. I love this site because it allows me to show you guys a whole range of new clothing items, and there are links so you guys can buy them or find them if interested. Plus, it’s an easy and fun site to use!

I made a board titled ‘Spring Is All You Need’, and I put in everything I love about spring. I used clothing with a wide range of prices, so from Forever 21 and H & M to more expensive stores like Wildfox and Windsor. I also wanted to let you guys know about a new online jewelry store I found: Bauble Bar. They carry the cutest jewelry that is not only fun, but trendy, and even though it can be expensive, their jewelry is of great quality and lasts a long time. I recently ordered some jewelry from there, and I just thought it was one of my top new stores.

Be sure to check out the board, and let me know what you think!

Spring Style

It is, at last, that time of year again. We will rid ourselves of our thick, heavy sweaters, and open our closets to an abundance of fresh colors and accessories! Spring, believe it or not, is actually, finally, here. Spring 2014 is a season filled with my most favorite fashions– ranging from beautiful pastels to gorgeous, classic shades. Today, I’m going to talk all about spring in my new series, Spring Style. Later on, I’ll encompass spring makeup!

1. Skater/Babydoll Dresses

These are definitely taking over all stores with spring merchandise! I’ve spotted these at PacSun (my go-to spring/summer store), Forever 21, Nordstrom, Abercombie, and everywhere else. I’ve totally been loving this trend, because not only are skater/babydoll dresses insanely comfortable and easy to style, but they come in the most amazing colors and prints.

Image

I love this one from PacSun because of the light, pretty color, the floral print (always in!), and the unique waist cutouts. You can style however you’d like– and I think this one would particularly go well with some gold midi-rings and a few thin gold layered necklaces.

Image

For those a bit more daring, this dress, also from PacSun, has a low cutout back with a simple black and white floral print. The fit n’ flare style accents your waist quite nicely, and flatters anyone’s shape.

2. Floral Prints

The floral print always seems to greet us around springtime, but it has made an appearance this spring in particular. There’s a bunch of cute floral tops, cardigans, and even shades that you can pick up for cheap at Forever 21.

This floral tank from Forever 21 is adorable, and casual for a warm spring day. I especially love the flowy, loose bottom to the tank.

Floral crop tops are among one of the most worn pieces so far this spring, and look cute with a pair of shorts.

3. Shorts

Who says that we must stick to plain, boring denim shorts? This spring is all about fun patterns and edgy accessories, and this applies to shorts. There’s a million pairs out there, ranging from black leather to lace shorts. When paired with a simple crop top or tee, the shorts really stand out. Here are a few versatile shorts that I like.

4. Shades

The sun shines bright, and we need the ultimate protection. Sunglasses can be an amazing fashion statement, and fashion icons (Audrey Hepburn, for instance) have been embracing large, classic sunglasses since the beginning of the fashion era. Depending on your style, always complete your spring outfit with the number one spring accessory!

I was recently e-mailed by a viewer about Warby Parker, a sunglass shade company. If you have very sensitive eyes or wear glasses, this company puts in your prescription lenses, which I think is pretty cool. They also carry a wide variety of sunglass styles and color shades, so you can browse through a larger collection.

For spring, I like having a pair of good, basic sunglasses. These ones are from Wildfox, and although they are a bit pricey (I’ve been saving up!) it’s totally worth it. They are all so adorable!

I also like having a ton of fun, inexpensive pairs! I visit Forever 21 for this particular mission, and go crazy.

This post was a lot of fun to write, and I hope you guys all liked it :). Comment with a link to one of your favorite spring items, and I’ll feature my favorite in my next post! Also let me know which item in this post was your favorite!

As an additional note, I have received some feature inquiries, which is very exciting for me! I’ve always hoped one day to get this opportunity, and I want to thank all you readers. For inquiries, contact me at fashionfrenzyco@yahoo.com .

Hairspiration!

Long time, no blog guys! I’ve been sitting here catching up with both this blog and my personal blog (The Inside Life of Nora Brooks) before I fall back into another crazy week. Today I wanted to blog about some hairspiration for not only the end of winter but the coming spring! Although the snow outside of my window tells me otherwise, I’ve been playing with my hair recently and came across so many cool hairstyles that I’ve been trying out.

Braided ponytails are really easy for that lazy hair day, because it takes just a few minutes but looks like you spent so much more time on it. You can throw in a French or fishtail braid, or even braid the actual ponytail segment of your hair. This style looks great on anyone, and I use this especially on late school mornings. A trick to making a ponytail look even more professional is to take a piece of your hair, wrap it around the hair tie, and secure it in place.

Just about anybody can twist or braid a section of their hair. Twist do’s and half-up half-down do’s can also be easy to do as well, and by adding in a twist or waterfall braid, you’re adding an elegant and simple touch. If you have leftover curls from the night before and don’t have time to restyle or take a shower, these styles look great. Brushed out hair, no matter how messy (as long as we don’t get bed-head crazy) looks cute with a twist or bow.

If you’re going out or attending a more formal event, or just want to have fun with your hair, these are definitely more time-consuming styles that have amazing detail. This braided updo is so sophisticated and detailed, but it definitely takes some practice. The last braid is absolutely adorable and so intricate, and almost looks like latticework or lace. If you are skilled at braiding, or have a friend who is, then definitely give these a try!

Let me know which styles are your favorites, and let me know if you guys give any of these a try! I’d love to do more hair-related posts in the future if you guys liked this one.

OOTD!

It has been such a long time since I have blogged, and I apologize! Lately things have been a swirl of stress, school, and tennis. However, today is a snow day, so that gave me some time to blog about something I have been excited about for a long time! Introducing a new string of posts: OOTDs- short for Outfit of the Days.

I photographed three of my outfits, and today I’m going to show them to you guys! This is to show you guys my style, give you inspiration, and so on! Without further ado, let’s get started!

Disclaimer: This was during winter break, and my school does have a uniform, so I could not wear these outfits to school! Also, I did not take a picture of my head (cropped out), just the outfit, due to keeping my privacy on the internet. I also apologize for any unclear/blurry pictures, I’ll get better in the future! And due to my cropping things out, I look a LOT shorter than I actually am. Just saying 🙂

Monday

Image

I was just out of the house running a few errands, going to the mall, and so on, so I settled for a more comfy/casual look. I just have on my black leggings, white three-button Uggs, and complete with a maroon sweater from American Eagle. I tied the whole look in with my key necklace from Forever 21.

Tuesday

Image

The snow had cleared by now, and I went out with my friends to the mall and movie theater. I decided to wear my dark red pants from AE for a pop of color, a light blue blouse, and my low-top white Converse. This outfit is a bit more edgy slash casual, but I added an owl necklace to keep things classic and cute.

Wednesday

Image

I went out to dinner with my family, so I opted for a more fancy outfit. I’m wearing my silver striped Abercombie sweater, an ombrè scarf from Charming Charlie (refer to my Black Friday haul for a full pic!), and cute metallic flats with studs and bows. I decided to wear some black leggings again for comfort and a bit of casual, and it added a nice contrast with the silver. For accessories, I just had on my red charm bracelet, also from CC.

So that was my first OOTD! Tell me what you think in the comments 🙂

A Call for Opinions!

I decided the best way to see what you guys would like me to post would be via-poll! Go ahead and vote– polls close January 14th. If anyone e-mails me with a request (fashionfrenzyco@yahoo.com) before the poll closes, then I’ll be sure to fulfill the request before January 14th! 🙂 I wanted to challenge myself in 2014, and it looks like I’ve found quite the challenge.

Zach Sobiech

Image

Right now, you might have been confused based on the title. Because, yes, I titled this post ‘Zach Sobiech’. I sat here, trying to do a favorites of 2013 or my December Favorites. But something kept nagging at me, in the back of my head. I realized it was the music I’d been playing— Clouds by Zach Sobiech. And then I realized that one of the most significant moments in 2013 had been when I’d known about Zach Sobiech, and learned his story.

And then I realized it was impossible to do a favorites of 2013 without explaining Zach Sobiech. I just couldn’t. And I hope you find out why when you’re done reading this.

Zach Sobiech was a normal teenager, preparing to go to college and for his life ahead. He went for a run with his sister, came back, and his left hip hurt. After a scan, he was diagnosed with cancer. He tried all kinds of treatments and surgeries, but there was nothing left. He had months to live.

He didn’t mope, and he didn’t complain. Zach lived every day to the fullest. He experienced so much in those final months, including music. He wrote the lyrics and recorded Clouds an inspirational song that you can’t help but play again and again. The song immediately got a big audience, and tons of support from listeners.

Several choirs have sung his song in his honor– the largest one being 5,000 people at the Mall of America. People remember Zach Sobiech, not as ‘the teenager who died of cancer’, but as the guy who accepted his fate and lived his days to the fullest. His lyrics are below:

Well I fell down, down, down
Into this dark and lonely hole
There was no one there to care about me anymore
And I needed a way to climb and grab a hold of the edge
You were sitting there holding a rope

And we’ll go up, up, up
But I’ll fly a little higher
We’ll go up in the clouds because the view is a little nicer
Up here my dear
It won’t be long now, it won’t be long now

When I get back on land
Well I’ll never get my chance
Be ready to live and it’ll be ripped right out of my hands
Maybe someday we’ll take a little ride
We’ll go up, up, up and everything will be just fine

And we’ll go up, up, up
But I’ll fly a little higher

We’ll go up in the clouds because the view is a little nicer
Up here my dear

It won’t be long now, it won’t be long now
If only I had a little bit more time
If only I had a little bit more time with you

We could go up, up, up
And take that little ride
And sit there holding hands
And everything would be just right
And maybe someday I’ll see you again
We’ll float up in the clouds and we’ll never see the end

And we’ll go up, up, up
But I’ll fly a little higher
We’ll go up in the clouds because the view is a little nicer
Up here my dear
It won’t be long now, it won’t be long now

Go ahead. Listen to his song while you finish reading. I’m waiting.

He made me realize so many things. About how good I’ve got it, and how I’m constantly surrounded with good. His story also helped me reflect about my life– and what I chose to prioritize and to live. He deeply moved me, and the name Zach Sobiech now meant something to me.

I actually wrote this the first time I heard his song– all my thoughts unfurled.

I am drifting in the clouds

                  Up and up

My hand reached, as far as it could

                  Up and up

I found a lone star, amidst the clouds

I held it softly in my palm

Its rays shone through my closed hand

It had burned bright for so long

                  So, so long

It had been a part of the sky

As I had been a part of the world

                  A part of billions

I was a star in the sky

Finding its way in the clouds

And I had discovered a way to be my own light

                  The world was water

                  Endless streams, flowing, floating

I had flowed, just like the star had shined

The water was ready to float

                  My time had come

I softly let the star free

                  Up and up

It had let go of the sky

One last glance, one last breath

                  Up and up

To the clouds, to the sky

I reached as far as I could

                  And then I looked down.

I just needed to put this out there, to put Zach’s story out there. I wanted to remember him, and in turn, look at the newly paved future. For Zach, it was the clouds. For me, it’s down the river.
